2015, Site specific installation and performance
Pääskyt (Swallow) emerged during a recent residency based at an old copper mine in Outokumpu, Finland. In an initial phase of research and development Fiona became interested in the birdlife inhabiting the environment surrounding the mine and the large cavernous spaces within the mine calling out to be re-inhabited. On this occasion the barn swallow provided inspiration for improvisations exploring actions of nesting and reposing. It is envisaged that this work will be taken to other locations where local spaces and birdlife will be researched and specifically inform improvisations – eventually culminating in a documented series of nestings.
